I got this from Kari's blog. In all my years of playing soccer, I've never had my pony tail almost ripped from my scalp. This girl is absolutely nuts!!!!

Cooking 101
I have been spoiled. Since we've been married Dennen has done the majority of the cooking. Really. I'll tell you some reasons why I so graciously let Dennen do the cooking: 1 - He's a great cook, 2 - He finds it relaxing whereas I find it more of a chore, 3 - I would rather be doing other activities with my spare time, 4 - I feel pampered, 5 - it's annoying when I have to go to the store for an ingredient I don't have, 6 - I will have to cook for the majority of our lives together, 7 - I don't have to chop up produce (I absolutely HATE doing this).
All of that said, this doesn't mean that I don't want to cook someday. Often times I daydream that I am an amazing cook/chef. This can only happen if we have all the expensive kitchen gadgets and nice tools, so you probably won't see me on the food channel any time soon...
Dennen has been really busy with school so I decided to pony-up and cook today. I'll give you a run down of what took place.
First, I started by cutting up the onions for the dish I was making. Dennen always wears ski goggles when he cuts onions. I think this is silly, so I decided I would be tough and just bare it. Mistake number 1. I don't think my eyes have ever watered worse than they did today, EVER! It is insane that onions do this to our eyes. "Maybe I should put on those ski goggles," I thought as I was halfway through one onion. But no, I just continued to blink back the massive amounts of water pouring out of my eyes until I was done chopping.
I guess other people wear ski goggles too.

We get a CSA share every week and received some mysterious looking peppers so I decided to cut some of those up. After I had chopped one I put my tongue to one of the seeds and it instantly caught my tongue on fire! I abandoned the mystery peppers but forgot that the fiery residue remained on my hands. Mistake number 2 (the worse of the two). My lower eyelid had an itch and I must have had one of the seeds from the pepper stuck to my finger because it flung into my eyeball as I scratched my eyelid. Let me just say that I thought I was going to be blind!!! I rushed into the bathroom as my eyeball started to melt away. Obviously I wasn't thinking clearly because I started to wash my face and eyeballs with my tainted hands. Need I say more? This was a pepper straight from HELL!!! What seemed like hours later the burning subsided. I scrubbed and scrubbed my hands. I thought all of the pepper residue was gone, not so. I then scratched my nose. My poor mucous membranes...
Maybe it's a good thing I don't have my own cooking show. On the other hand, it could be pretty funny.

Random Lists on a Saturday
Hils has carried the weight of this blog for a while now so I figured I better make a post. As Hils mentioned, I've decided to take my schooling in a different direction and go to Physician Assistant (PA) school. In order to get in, I'm taking as many prerequisite classes as I can this Fall and Spring semester. I haven't really had any science based classes before, so this semester has been a big change (I'm taking biology, chemistry, and physiology). So here is a list of why I like my new science classes:
- I know why poop is brown (Bile!).
- I get to use microscopes, which are kind of a good time.
- No computers, no term papers, just tests...
- I'm learning cool and complicated words for regular things. Who knew a blood pressure cuff was called a sphygmomanometer (sfig-mo-ma-NOM-eter)?
- My chemistry teacher is a hippy who has a goat farm and spontaneously lights things on fire to prove a point.
Also, its been a while since I've been in intro courses that have lots of freshmen. And it makes me feel kind of old (relatively). Anyway, it got me thinking on a lot of things that I've noticed lately that make me feel old. So here's the list:
- minor joint pain in knees, shoulders, elbows, and fingers (I don't know if that one is normal...)
- feeling naked without a wrist watch
- getting excited about new church clothes
- drinking Diet Coke
- feeling like waking up at 6:30 a.m. is sleeping in
- not understanding new fashion trends (especially guys wearing thin, v-neck shirts that show off their man-nipples, I just don't get it)
- overhearing freshmen talk about their weekends
- being older than the TAs teaching my labs
- getting cold easily
- realizing that my parents were right about everything
On the flip-side, a lot of things remind me that I'm still a youngen:
- seeing gray-hairs in my classes
- drinking Diet Coke out of a biking water bottle
- getting excited about retro t-shirts
- being around my wife
- double dates
- getting ridiculously excited for Halloween

(sorry for the lame picture)

Our abode
I know my grandparents and aunts and uncles would like to probably see where we live so I took some pictures of our place. Most of you will probably never come visit us, so at least this way you can take a gander at our abode.
Just if you were wondering what that green lawn is doing in the photos... it's ours! It is actually pretty cool to have a front lawn with tons of full grown trees shading it (and no, we don't have to mow it).
When we moved into our place the walls were painted a ghastly purple color. My sister Megan came over and helped us paint for a night. I wish I took before and after pictures because it made such a difference. Thanks Megan! Also, the people that lived in our place before us were, how do I say it... less than clean. To put it bluntly our place smelled like butt. A bottle of Febreez later and the smell is gone.
I think one of my favorite aspects of our new place is how many large windows we have that let in soooo much natural light. We love our new place and how close it is to campus!
I'm super proud of that bright blue table in the pictures too. It was a table that I found at D.I. ($10) that was an ugly brown. At first I was covering it with a table cloth, and then thought, what the heck I think I'll paint it bright blue. What do you think? I've always wanted to paint a piece of our furniture bright, but I always thought I'd regret it. Guess what? I don't, I fall in love with it more every day.

I just don't get it
All around campus people are riding those stupid aluminum things with 2 wheels, yes those things on Zoolander. Are you kidding me people!? Reality check, they are NOT cool (sorry if you have one). For about a second I thought, "hmmm maybe there is something more than meets the eye..." but there isn't, they are absolutely ridiculous! Do any of you see people riding these jokes around? Can you explain the appeal of them to me?

All I have to say is, disgusting.

All I have to say is, disgusting.

Recent going-ons
Being a faithful blogger is harder than I thought... Oh well, I'll just do my best. We have been really busy this past month. I'll give you a run down of what we've been up to (for those of you who care).
1. We went camping in the Uintas.
2. We started school.
3. Dennen changed what he wants to do in school. He wants to go to physician's assistant school. Yeah, I know, big change huh? He decided that he doesn't want to spend his life in front of a computer and that being a PA would be a very fulfilling occupation. So now he's taking all the pre-req classes that he needs to get in. Needless to say, he probably won't be making any posts on our blog... boo.
4. We moved into a new place that is about a 5 minute walk to school, shazam! Don't worry, the ceilings are a lot higher so Dennen won't end up being a hunch back.
Last but not least, I always try to include some photos when I post, so here are some panoramic pictures that we took this summer.

The top one is driving on I-70 through Colorado on our way back from Connecticut. The bottom one is from our camping trip to Island Lake in the Uintas (you'll have to click on both of them to actually do them justice).

And the winners are...
Mindy and Renee!! I decided that because so many people left comments I would draw 2 winners. Email me (hilary.smith@aggiemail.usu.edu) what item you want and I'll send it to you ASAP. Thanks for everyone's nice comments, it really means a lot to have people like the things I make. I will be having another drawing in December. Thanks again!
